Haymes Dexpress 10L Tint Base Deck & Timber Stain

Haymes Woodcare Dexpress is a quick-drying, water-based exterior timber stain that forms a hard-wearing, low-sheen protective finish. The Tint Base range is intended for deeper or more colour-defined finishes while keeping the timber grain visible.

Dexpress forms a thin protective film on the timber surface rather than behaving like a conventional penetrating decking oil. Haymes states that it lasts up to three times longer than traditional decking oils and provides UV- and mould-resistant protection for Australian exterior timber.

10L pack: suited to larger decks, extensive cladding and fencing, or multi-area exterior timber projects. Select the required Sealix tint option before adding the product to cart.

  • Hard-wearing, low-sheen finish for exterior timber
  • Up to 3× longer lasting than traditional decking oils
  • UV- and mould-resistant coating
  • Quick-drying water-based formulation
  • Rich colour while retaining visible timber grain
  • Easy water clean-up

The Dexpress Tint Base product is currently configured at Sealix in:

  • Licorice – a deep, dark option
  • Natural Oak – a warm timber-inspired option
  • Soft Stone – a softer neutral option
  • Stone – a stronger neutral stone tone
  • Untinted – the tinting-system base; confirm the intended tint and suitability with Sealix before use

Colour appearance varies with timber species, existing colour, preparation, number of coats and lighting. Always test the tinted product on an offcut or inconspicuous section before completing the project.

Suitable for preserving hardwood and softwood exterior timber, including Merbau, Spotted Gum and treated pine.

  • Decks, verandahs and steps
  • Walkways and frequently used outdoor timber
  • Cladding and weatherboards
  • Fences, screens and timber gates
  • Outdoor timber furniture

Confirm compatibility before applying over an unknown existing coating or unusual timber species.

  • Pack size: 10L
  • Indicative coverage: approximately 8–10 m²/L per coat
  • Indicative pack coverage: approximately 80–100 m² per coat at the indicative 8–10 m²/L rate, depending on timber porosity and application
  • Finish: low sheen
  • Touch dry: approximately 20 minutes
  • Recoat: approximately 2 hours
  • Application: brush or applicator pad
  • Clean-up: water

Coverage and drying times are guides. Porous, rough, weathered or absorbent timber may require more product. Cool, humid or poorly ventilated conditions extend drying.

  1. Inspect the timber and identify any previous coating.
  2. Remove dirt, grease, mould, contamination and loose or failing finishes.
  3. Strip or sand incompatible existing coatings where required.
  4. Prepare new or weathered timber with the appropriate Haymes Woodcare preparation system.
  5. Allow the surface to dry fully.
  6. Stir thoroughly before and during application; do not shake.
  7. Complete an adhesion and colour test patch.

If the previous finish or tinting requirement is uncertain, ask Sealix for system advice before coating.

  1. Confirm the selected colour has been correctly tinted before starting.
  2. Check the forecast and avoid rain, extreme heat, direct hot sun or hot timber.
  3. Stir thoroughly before and during use so the colour remains uniform.
  4. Apply evenly with a quality brush or decking applicator pad, working with the grain and maintaining a wet edge.
  5. Avoid heavy application, pooling and lap marks.
  6. Allow the specified recoat time and only recoat when ready.
  7. Allow for 2–3 coats according to the current label, timber, UV exposure and traffic.
  8. Keep foot traffic and furniture off the coating until sufficiently cured.

Inspect exposed and high-traffic areas regularly. Maintenance depends on orientation, UV, weather, traffic, timber species and colour.

  1. Clean the surface and remove contamination.
  2. Repair worn areas and confirm the remaining coating is sound.
  3. Use the same recorded tint formula for the most consistent result.
  4. Apply a maintenance coat before widespread failure occurs.

Always follow the current Haymes label and product data sheet.

Is Tint Base ready to use?
Selected colour variants should be supplied correctly tinted. The Untinted option is a tinting-system base; confirm its intended use with Sealix.

Will Dexpress hide the timber grain?
No. It adds semi-transparent colour and protection while retaining visible grain, although darker colours create a stronger colour effect.

How many coats are required?
Allow for 2–3 coats depending on timber, exposure and traffic, then follow the current label for the final system.

Can it go over an old coating?
Only after confirming compatibility and adhesion. Loose, weathered or incompatible finishes must be removed.

Why record the tint formula?
Using the same product and tint formula helps produce a more consistent appearance during future maintenance.

Why SEALIX recommends it: Dexpress Tint Base is recommended when a stronger, more colour-defined finish is required while the timber grain remains visible. The deeper tones can help create a more uniform appearance on weathered or visually varied exterior timber.

  • Best for: larger feature decks, modern colour schemes, cladding and exterior timber where Licorice, Natural Oak, Soft Stone or Stone is preferred.
  • Tint advice: Untinted is a tinting-system base, not a confirmed finished colour. Confirm the colour with SEALIX and record the tint formula for future maintenance.
  • Application advice: stir thoroughly before and during use, test the colour on the actual timber and maintain a wet edge to reduce lap marks.
  • Pack advice: the 10L size is the more efficient choice for large areas and complete multi-coat deck systems.
