Haymes Dexpress is the next step in decking protection — a polish-look timber finish that outlasts and outperforms traditional decking oils. Instead of soaking in and fading quickly, Dexpress leaves your deck looking richer, glossier, and more vibrant for years.
Recommended by Sealix for use on Australian hardwoods like Merbau, Spotted Gum, Blackbutt, and Treated Pine, Dexpress gives you a beautiful polished look while shielding against UV, water, and mould damage. Fast drying and easy to apply, it’s ideal for both fresh decks and older ones being refreshed.
For best results, Sealix recommends:
- 1 coat Haymes UVEX Primer + 2 coats Dexpress for natural tones (Natural, Light Oak, Natural Oak, Merbau).
- 3 coats of Dexpress for deeper, more colour-intensive tones (Licorice, Stone, etc.).
- Creates a rich, polished timber look finish
- Recommended by Sealix for Australian decks
- Protects up to 3–4× longer than oils
- Enhances and deepens timber colour
- Resists UV, mould, water, and wear
Prep – Ensure timber is clean, dry, and free of old coatings (use Sealix Restoration Kit if required).
Prime (Recommended) – Apply 1 coat Haymes UVEX Primer on hardwoods like Merbau & Spotted Gum.
Apply – Stir well. Use a decking brush/applicator, not a roller. Work with the grain.
Coating System
- Natural tones: 1 coat Primer + 2 coats Dexpress
- Deep colours: 3 coats Dexpress
Drying – Touch dry in 1–2 hours, recoat in 2–3 hours.
Maintenance – Reapply every 12–24 months depending on wear and exposure.
- New decks needing a polish-look protective finish
- Previously oiled decks requiring a long-lasting upgrade
- Outdoor furniture, cladding, pergolas, and gates
- High-traffic decks and fully exposed areas
- Always use Primer for dense hardwoods.
- For maximum colour retention, apply thin, even coats.
- Opt for 3 coats on darker tones for the best depth.
- Maintain every 12–24 months to keep that polished look.
- What finish does Dexpress give?
A polished timber look finish with a natural low sheen. It highlights and protects the grain while giving the deck a richer, more refined appearance.
- Why does Sealix recommend Haymes Dexpress?
Because we’ve used it on thousands of decks and outdoor timber surfaces across Australia. In our experience, it delivers the best results and longest life compared to all other water-based and acrylic decking oils on the market. That’s why it’s our go-to system.
- Do I need to use a primer?
Primer is optional, but highly recommended in many cases:
- On dense hardwoods like Merbau or Spotted Gum to improve adhesion and colour hold
- For lighter/natural tones (Natural, Light Oak, Merbau) where primer + 2 coats Dexpress provides superior results
-
If you want maximum longevity and colour stability
For stronger tones (Licorice, Stone), 3 coats of Dexpress alone is generally sufficient.
- How long does Dexpress last?
On average, 3–4× longer than traditional penetrating oils. With proper prep and application, you can expect 18–36 months before maintenance recoats are needed, depending on exposure and traffic.
- How much coverage will I get?
Approx. 8–10 m² per litre- 1 coat, depending on timber density, age, and porosity.
- How quickly does it dry?
Touch dry in 1–2 hours and ready to recoat in 2–3 hours, so most decks can be finished in a single day.
- What timbers is it suitable for?
Perfect for Australian hardwoods such as Merbau, Spotted Gum, Blackbutt, Ironbark, as well as treated pine, cladding, screens, pergolas, and fences.
- How do I maintain a Dexpress finish?
Simply clean the deck and apply a fresh coat every 12–24 months, depending on wear and orientation. High-traffic or north-facing decks may need recoating sooner.
